There’s a restaurant in Anderson, Indiana that hasn’t changed much in more than 60 years. This iconic yellow restaurant sits in front of a railroad and is known for its bright exterior.
There are several things about this diner that make it truly special, and you’ve got to scroll on to find them out.
The Lemon Drop Drive-In in central Indiana is an iconic eatery that has been in business since 1952. The current owner has had it since 1972, and it has not changed much since.
The diner is named for the original owner of this classic, yellow restaurant, Mike Lemon. It used to be just a drive-in but now seats about 25 guests inside. The place is almost always busy with a line out the door during the lunch and dinner rushes.
There are several things that make this iconic place special. One is the free candy. Lemon drops are available at the cashier for any and all to take. The other thing locals love about this restaurant is the miniature train that runs around the edge of the ceiling.
The other thing that has kept people coming back for more than 60 years is the food. Most famous is the onion burger, which is two meat patties cooked with onion in the middle. It is best to get it served on toast. The toasted cheeseburgers at the Lemon Drop are better than anywhere else.
The tenderloins and onion rings are other very popular menu items. Rings are made with a special flavoring that is top-secret and highly-addicting. Additional items include hamburger steak, fish dinners, chicken dinners, grilled cheeses, and more.
The Lemon Drop Drive-In is open for lunch and dinner six days a week. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Stop by early if you want to get a quick seat.
