Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Hidden away in the small town of Floyds Knobs, Indiana are several hiking trails that Hoosiers adore. One of them just so happens to be especially wondrous in the spring. Following a long, chilly winter, it’s an amazing place to escape to witness wildflowers of all sorts bursting into life. Anyone hankering for some spring wildflowers in Indiana ought to seek out the Mount Saint Francis Loop Trail – I promise it’s worth every step (and it’s easy, too).
Starting right around now (read: late February), the magic happens.
As you walk this easy, nearly three-mile trail, you'll notice right away that wildflowers and their parent plants are exploding up through the dead foliage of winter.
As you walk among the blossoming flowers, the blooming grass and all the meadows along the way, you'll feel your spirit quieten.
It's a popular trail, so weekends are the busiest time. If you come during the week, preferably early in the morning, you have the best chances at getting some peace and quiet.

Between the cleared paths, the lovely meadows, and the amazing flowers, I'm not even sure what part will blow your mind the most.
There are at least two other trails you can also explore while you're here, but my personal favorite is definitely the Loop. There's just nothing like it.
...and don't even get me started on the fragrance.
Not only are these flowers all over the place, there's enough of them in several places that you'll smell them as you approach. It's truly wonderful - nothing smells better than the wilderness, if you ask me.
And okay, maybe this isn't the "wilderness", per se, but it kind of feels like it.
One thing's for certain: it's a must for wildflower enthusiasts seeking out the best spring wildflowers in Indiana. You can't miss it - everyone ought to do it once.
