Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Indiana is a beautiful place to live and visit. No matter which corner you explore, you’re sure to find something magical that you’ll never forget. For example, you’ll find the southernmost tip of Lake Michigan in one of the northernmost points of the state (visit Marquette Park, in Gary, to experience that). The westernmost part of the state just so happens to land on the scenic, breathtaking Wabash River, which is always a pleasure to experience.
The Wabash River is a 503-mile long river that drains the vast majority of the Hoosier State.
It cuts right across the state; and, as a result there are plenty of towns, cities, parks, and attractions that rely on the Wabash to bring visitors in year to year.
Should you wander to the coordinates of 37°54′9″ N and 88°5′50.3″ W, you'll find yourself at the single westernmost point of Indiana -- and it just so happens to be right on this delightful river.
While you're down in that little southwestern tip of the state exploring the westernmost point, you might want to consider camping, hiking, or even kayaking parts of the Wabash.
If you follow the river north from the westernmost point, you'll eventually find yourself in places like New Harmony, Vincennes, Terre Haute and, of course, Wabash.
Spring brings vibrant new life, summer brings lush greenery and wildflowers, autumn brings breathtaking color changes, and winter, of course, brings forth a veritable wonderland. Camping year-round is great, and you'll want to try it during every season to really get the full Wabash River experience.
Who knew so many adventures could begin at that single pinpoint that is the westernmost point of Indiana?
