Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Indiana doesn’t seem to get the credit it deserves if you ask me. While folks often wave it off as a “flyover” state that’s “nothing but corn”, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Indiana is an amazingly diverse state with so much to do, see and experience that you couldn’t get it all done in a lifetime – you just need to know where to look! Check out, for example, these awesome things to do in Indianapolis (and nearby) put together by our friends at Viator.
Axe throwing is way cooler - and safer - than it sounds like it should be. And wouldn't you know, you can do some of that right here in Indianapolis. You'll learn techniques and about the sport from a professional coach before giving it a shot yourself. It's a long-time Canadian pastime... and now it can be yours!
The awesome Fountain Square Food Tour leads you through Indy's historic Fountain Square District. This artsy tour is three hours long, and you'll be able to sample some excellent wine and cider, too, on top of numerous internationally-inspired dishes. This one's definitely for the serious foodie in your life.
Bloomington is the seventh-largest city in Indiana, and it's home to plenty of things to do and see - enough that it's definitely worth exploring by way of scavenger hunt! Using your smartphone, compete with other hunters around the globe to find all your items the fastest. Answer trivia questions, take goofy photos, you know... the whole shebang.
What better way to explore Indianapolis in all its historic glory than by a walking tour led by an expert guide? Points of interest along the way include the Indiana War Memorial Historic District, Mass Ave (of course), the Wholesale District, the City Market, the Indiana Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument, and more. You'll learn everything you ever wanted to know and then some about these totally-Indy historic spots. This is one walking tour of Indianapolis you can't miss.
Okay, okay - there's two food tours on this list, but seriously, can you blame me? Indianapolis is known for the vast array of amazing dining options there are, especially on Massachusetts Avenue. In this case, your foodie guide leads you and your friends on a delicious adventure powered by your tastebuds. The tour begins at The Rathskeller and goes from there. Samples are on the house! The whole thing takes about three and a half hours, so wear good walking shoes and come hungry!
Of all the fun things there are to do in Indiana, these five things should definitely get you off to a delightful (and delicious) start. What do you think? Which one will you do first? Let me know in the comments – and tell me those axe-throwing scores! If you need somewhere to stay while in and around Indy, be sure to check out all the offerings our friends at Booking.com have – you’ll be amazed at the options!
