Halloween may be over, but that doesn’t mean Indiana doesn’t still have a few scares up its sleeve. We’ve written recently about haunted cemeteries, spooky ghost towns, and other creepy attractions. If you’re up for one of the scariest, check into this luxurious, yet allegedly haunted hotel for the night…if you dare.
The French Lick Springs Hotel is a stunning Indiana resort that is one of the most impressive buildings, let alone hotels, in the entire state. This gorgeous hotel is a National Historic place, beautifully designed in the Queen Anne Renaissance style. While this hotel will leave you astounded by its splendor, it's also shrouded in many mysteries.
This hauntingly beautiful hotel was build sometime in the early 1800s, though its exact origins and date of construction are unknown. What is pretty well confirmed though is that this elegant resort is one of the most haunted places in the Hoosier state.
That's right. Despite its impressive design, many believe this hotel to be haunted, by none other than the ghost of the hotel's former owner, Thomas Taggart (a former Indianapolis mayor).
Many claim that Taggart's spirit never left the historic hotel, insisting they can still smell his tobacco smoke and often find mists, apparitions, and other unexplained sightings near the service elevator.
Stories claim that Taggart still operates the service elevator when the hotel is busy, while other tales tell of hearing Taggart partying in nearby rooms. Some visitors claim they've even seen Taggard riding down the corridors on horseback.
In addition to Taggart's alleged hauntings, other guests and employees claim the hotel's sixth and seventh floors are particularly haunted. Staff members often receive phone calls from sixth floor rooms without occupants, while others claim to have witnessed blood appearing in a room rumored to have once housed a bride who committed suicide. There are event ales of a former bellhop, who can be seen in old hotel photographs, appearing at his former work station, the bell hop stand.
Are you brave enough to book a room on the sixth or seventh room of this grand hotel?
You can find it at 8670 W State Road 56, French Lick, IN 47432.
One thing’s for sure: this allegedly haunted hotel sure is breathtaking. Have you ever stayed here? For a longer list of haunted places in Indiana, check out this haunted road trip.
