If there is one thing that is true about the people of Indiana it is that they are very opinionated. While I already knew this, some of the comments you guys leave every day just reaffirm how opinionated you are. There are some things in Indiana we just love to hate together as one. In fact, here are 11 things people from Indiana love to hate.
1. Having to drive all the way to another state to buy beer on a Sunday.
Indiana is one of the only states in the US where you cannot buy alcohol if it is Sunday. Even Hoosiers don’t think this makes any sense. What’s the point when you could still order booze if you go out to eat on a Sunday?
2. Brushing all the dead locusts off your vehicles.
If you’ve spend any time in Indiana during the summer, you’ve heard the dreaded cry of a locust. A locust is one of those annoying ugly little creatures that looks a little like a grasshopper. At the end of summer, you will find their dead bodies and left over shells EVERYWHERE.
3. Not being able to have a seasonal wardrobe.
The state of Indiana is notorious for experiencing all four seasons in the same week. If you get the opportunity to put a winter or summer wardrobe together, you usually don’t get the pleasure of putting it up because it won’t be too long before you need it again.
4. Spring is just a huge cluster of construction projects.
When other states think about spring, they think about beautiful flowers and fresh green grass. When a Hoosier thinks about spring, they think about how much earlier they are going to have to get up to get to work to deal with all the traffic delays because of endless construction projects.
5. The New England Patriots.
This one speaks for itself. Hoosiers (for the most part) are avid football fans. If you ask anyone who loves Colts who they hate, the answer is always going to be Patriots. We’ve had a rivalry with them for many, many years. Every time they score a point we want to throw up. Ironically enough, most of us don’t even know why we hate them so much – we just do.
6. Corn.
"There is so much more to Indiana than just corn" is really something all Hoosiers get sick of saying.
7. Watch your weight.
There is nothing a Hoosier loves to hate more than someone telling them to "watch their weight". I’m not saying everyone in the state is overweight or unhealthy. But, a large chunk of us are one of the two. In the state of Indiana, there is a fast food joint around just about every corner. And even when we cook our own meals, we want butter, grease, and ranch with just about everything. Sure, you are going to find a few Hoosiers that go on some crazed diet and count their carbs, but most of us like to eat food.
8. Indiana is just a state you pass through.
Hoosiers really hate when we are dismissed as a boring state that you pass through to get to a more interesting state. We have a lot to offer and most of us find being called "The Crossroads of America" to be offensive too.
9. Are you Amish?
Yes, Indiana has a massive Amish community; and we love them. We are also home to a lot of farmers, but that does not mean every single person in our state is either Amish or a farmer. Atheism, Christianity, Satanism, Taoism, Judaism, and Buddhism are just a few of the practices you will encounter in just a single city within our state. We are really big on diversity here.
10. Vegetarians.
Sure, you are going to come across a few vegetarians in Indiana. However, most Hoosiers laugh at the thought of never eating meat again. After all, we are a farming state! We love chicken, steak, deer, bacon, turkey, and ham. Furthermore, bacon is so much more than just an option for breakfast – it is a way of life! It isn’t that we hate vegetables. We just hate the idea of not being able to have any meat.
11. Daylight saving time and time zones.
Daylight saving time and time zones are both frustrating and confusing. Did you know there is more than one time zone within the state of Indiana? Cross over from one city to the next and you might have to change the time on your watch!
