Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Hidden away at Wildflower Woods is 148 beautiful acres of land that includes an old homestead once owned (and built by) Gene Stratton-Porter, one of many famous authors who called Indiana home at some point or another. Porter holds the wonderful distinction of being Indiana’s most famous female writer, but that wasn’t all – she was also a passionate photographer as well. Come visit this jaw-droppingly magical historic site in Indiana that’ll transport you straight back in time!
Designed by Porter herself and built in 1914, this absolutely beautiful cabin is nestled right on the banks of scenic Sylvan Lake.
The lake is just under 700 acres in size, and it provides a wonderful backdrop to any time spent here. The water is sparkling clean, and it always reflects the brilliant blue of sky on its own surface, making for a photogenic sight year-round.

Guided cabin tours are available from April through November.
Tickets should be purchased in advance on the website. If you've never been, you'll learn a lot - and if you've been at least once, you'll probably learn something new every time you come in.
I'm not even sure which is better: taking an inside tour or an outside one. It's all wonderful, and the whole experience is definitely worth traveling for. The grounds are amazingly beautiful - a reflection of the soul of the woman who once called it home.
It's not every day you get an up-close-and-personal glimpse at the life of a writer and artist - let alone one so prolific in our little corner of the world.
The Gene-Stratton Porter home is also known by its more whimsical name: Limberlost.
And it is with that name I'll leave you... explore Limberlost at your earliest convenience and discover a part of Indiana's history you probably didn't know!
