Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Fun fact: most of Indiana’s wildflowers bloom in spring and early summer, but don’t worry – there’s still plenty of time for enjoying flowers anyway, even if spring has already wandered past. For example, summer (and autumn, actually) is sunflower season, and anyone interested in experiencing entire fields of sunflowers in Indiana is going to want to listen up: I’ve found the perfect place for doing exactly this, and guess what? You can pick some and take them home, too. Check it out:
Typically opening for the summer season in July, Golliher Farms didn't even start out as a sunflower farm... it just kind of happened.
It all started in 2019, when the owner, Joe, wanted to plant a sunflower field for his partner, whose favorite flower is the sunflower (I don't blame her).
Well, long story short, he overplanted, and soon an incredible field of sunflowers covered his farm.
Golliher Farms has the snips, water, and jars - you just put the whole thing together. It makes for a great date idea, too - what's more romantic than giving her a bouquet? Letting her make her own out of incredible sunflowers, obviously.
I had no idea there are so many different types of sunflowers! You've got your giant ones - the ones that typically come to mind when thinking of the flower at all - and then there's an array of red, orange, yellow, and sometimes multi-colored blooms, too.
The farm also offers wedding and event opportunities - if you've ever wanted your family photos taken in a sunflower field, Golliher Farms is happy to supply the field.
For the most up-to-date information about this summer season and anything else you’ll need to know to plan your adventure, be sure to check out the official Golliher Farms website. Wanna do an amazing photoshoot in a sea of sunflowers? Find the perfect outfit (or the perfect accessories) on Etsy! There are all sorts of unique, flowy, summery delights there.
What are your favorite places to visit in the summer? Let me know – I love hearing about your favorite places.
