For those nights when you want to class it up and dine at a fancy steakhouse, there’s a historic stable restaurant in Terre Haute, Indiana that is the perfect place for dinner. This incredible old piece of architecture will surely blow you away.
A good meal is made even better with incredible decor and unique history. Scroll on to learn all about this beautiful place.
Stables Steakhouse is one of the most unique restaurants in Indiana. Located in the southern part of the state near our border with Illinois, this gorgeous eatery is unlike anything you've seen before.
A restaurant since 1998, this building was originally built as a horse stable in 1890 for the Terre Haute Brewing Company. The horses housed there helped deliver beer around the area.
Though the original horse stalls and other fixtures have been removed, the place has been restored to resemble the original architecture. The building is made of brick and solid poplar, and there are several other historic pieces of work to be found.
Three brass chandeliers hanging throughout the restaurant are from the Elks Lodge, and there is also a large 15.5-foot stained-glass window from the Indiana Statehouse.
While the historic decor is amazing, the food is even better. Most come for the steak. Enjoy a porterhouse, filet mignon, ribeye, or New York Strip cooked however you like.
Other menu items include delicious seafood dishes like jumbo shrimp, lobster tail, and scallops, as well as pasta, chicken, pork, and appetizers like onion rings, oysters, and French onion soup.
Be sure to save room for dessert. Guests can choose from creme brulee, bread pudding, cheesecake, and chocolate layer cake.
Open daily at 4:30 p.m., Stables Steakhouse closes at 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, at 10 p.m. Friday through Saturday, and at 8 p.m. on Sunday. Stop by for one of the most memorable dinners of your life.
