Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Few things in this life are as perfectly luscious as fresh-picked, large, sweet, fleshy berries. Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries. All of them. Nothing beats the berries one can find (and in many cases, pick themselves) at one of the many delightful U-pick farms in Indiana, or anywhere, for that matter. There’s just something special about selecting and picking them yourself that makes it all the more rewarding when you finally dig in. We found a wonderful, family-owned U-pick farm in Indiana that’s worth bringing the entire family to on the day trip of a lifetime. Nestled in Noblesville is the Spencer family farm, and on this farm, you’ll find some of the most amazing berries, fruits, veggies, ice cream, jams, jellies, and even Christmas trees, but right now is a special time: right now, you can pick some of the best raspberries you’ve ever had in your life (and in abundance). Check it out:
Originally started as a small strawberry farm on 10 acres in 1982 as the childhood dream of founder Kyle Spencer, the operation soon moved to a larger expanse of land and expanded its inventory.
Soon, all sorts of amazing things were growing here, like blueberries, pumpkins, sunflowers, flowers, and, of course, some truly incredible raspberries.
Naturally, the strawberries are the typical draw to Spencer Farm, and as a result, the fields get picked over relatively quickly.
But the secret fun somes in the summer, when the raspberry fields ripen and open for picking. Going during the week ensures less crowds, and bringing the kids to a working farm to learn where their food comes from is always a rewarding experience for everyone.

There are both red raspberries and black raspberries on the farm, and they're all gorgeous. It's hard to pick them when they look so lovely on the bush.
If you're not a fan of going out and picking your berries yourself, there are lots of pre-picked and packaged berries from the farm available for purchase. There is also ice cream, home-made fudge, jams, jellies, butters, and so much more.
The first busy season is when the strawberries are ready. The second busy season is in the fall, when pumpkins and sunflowers reign king.
But for now, it's all about these amazing raspberries, which we think might just be criminally underrated. Strawberries are wonderful, but so are raspberries - we think they just don't get the love they deserve.
But, you know, we digress; if YOU'RE a lover of the almighty raspberry (can you tell we are?), you'll be a lover of raspberry season at Indiana's very own Spencer Farm.
For the latest hours, specials, and more, be sure to visit the official Spencer Farm website. There, you’ll also find helpful information like what’s growing (and when).
