When Gus Schimpff Sr. and Jr. founded the store, they had no idea that it would survive two World Wars, the Great Depression, and two pandemics.
Over the last hundred years, the store has been passed down to new members of the Schimpff family.

In 1990, the business was purchased by Warren Schimpff, Gus Sr.'s grandson. He expanded the store into the building next door and opened a museum dedicated to the history of candy making.

Some of the store's most beloved candies, like Modjeskas, have remained the same since the early days. Modjeskas are named after Helena Modjeska, a famous Polish actress in the late 1800s who starred in many Shakespearean roles.
