Look no further than beautiful Whilhala Beach in Indiana (though you might feel like you’re on the west coast somewhere). It’s a gorgeous, often-forgotten place to mellow out on a hot, humid day – and there are all kinds of fun things to do, too.
Whihala Beach is an absolutely breathtaking place on the shores of Lake Michigan.
There's a view of the world-famous Chicago skyline directly across the lake and right in one's line of vision, and it really does make for a beautiful backdrop on a warm, sunny day.
It's also very important to double-check to ensure that there is no riptide warning in effect, either; few things will ruin a fun day out on the lake than a bad run-in with a riptide. Checking for this can be done here.
Whihala Beach is more than just a day at the lake. It's also home to one of the best boardwalks in the entire country, which says a lot! The views are unbeatable and sure to wow everyone in your party.
The beach spans for more than 20 acres, and on those 20 acres, there is plenty more to do than simply sunbathing.
Folks who enjoy observing nature will be happy to hear that birdwatching at Whihala Beach is particularly excellent, thanks to migrating species who tour through every season.
There are also grilling areas, concessions, a boat launch, and a biking trail, too.
Fishing is permitted with a fishing license, which can be obtained here. Whihala Beach in Indiana is another great place for fishing, on top of the hundreds of others throughout the state.
At the time of this writing, the beach is open from the Friday before Memorial Day to Labor Day, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The beach parking lot is open from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and the boat launch parking lot is open from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Cars are $20 per day (or $4 per hour), and the boat launch fee is $30.
Whihala Beach in Indiana is a wonderful place, and it’s just about perfect for a summer vacation.
