Things To Do In Indiana

What are some unique places in Indiana?
From weird roadside attractions to fascinating natural wonders, there are plenty of interesting places in Indiana to explore and enjoy. Here are a few unique places in Indiana that we find ourselves going back to again and again:

  • Pinhook Bog, Indiana Dunes National Park: This fascinating ecosystem in the Indiana Dunes National Park is filled with deadly carnivores - if you are an insect that is. Pinhook Bog at first glance might look like any old forest or grassy prairie, but much of its surface is covered in floating Sphagnum peat moss. This stagnant boggy environment, combined with a unique acidic PH is perfect for incredible plants like rare orchids and lady slippers. Amid the beauty, you'll also find carnivorous plants like the spoon leaf sundew and several species of pitcher plants, all of which feed on trapped insects.
  • Indiana Dunes National Park, Porter, IN: Another of our favorite unique environments in Indiana is the dunes. When you explore this area you'll feel like a pirate searching for a place to bury his treasure - it has a tropical island vibe with the flowing sand dunes and the vast wide open horizon against the cool blue waters of the southern tip of Lake Michigan. While you may not run into fellow pirates, you will spot other nature lovers enjoying a warm day at the dunes.
  • Old Jail Inn, Rockville, IN: Most people try to avoid the clink, but we crazy Hoosiers are up for a little bit of the weird. If you have ever wondered what it would feel like to stay in a jail cell (without any scary roommates) a night at the Old Jail Inn might just be what you are looking for. This historic county jail built in 1879 and used until 1998 has been converted to a pretty interesting hotel. If you are really naughty, you will be thrown into the Drunk Tank - a speakeasy-style winery that probably isn't much of a punishment after all.
