Nature lovers haven't seen the best of southern Indiana until they've rented a cabin with Along the Blue River. Available April through October, this getaway lets you sleep right on a little-known waterway that is filled with peace and tranquility.
This 60-mile river begins in Washington County and flows southward to the Ohio River. It is home to Harrison Spring, which is the largest spring in the state.
There are two river cabins to choose from along the Blue River, one of which hosts up to four guests while the other hosts up to 12 persons. Whether it's just you and a loved one or a whole bachelorette party, this place is the perfect accommodation.
Sleeping four, the Harrison Spring Cabin, has two bedrooms and a single bathroom as well as a full kitchen. The best features are the wrap-around deck and floor-to-ceiling windows that allow for some spectacular views.
The Cardinal House has three bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms. The extra space in this cabin allows for a huge screened in porch where extra beds and a breakfast nook are kept, a giant living room with a circular fireplace, and a bigger kitchen.
Each cabin comes with a gas or charcoal grill, indoor and outdoor seating areas (such as picnic tables), and a riverside campfire circle for late-night bonfires. There is no heat or A/C (or television or WiFi) in these riverside cabins, so you'll get to enjoy an authentic camping experience.
There are additional cabin options along the Ohio River known as the Lake House and the Horseshoe Bend Cabin. These houses also sleep four and 12 guests, respectively.
Check out Along the Blue River's website (link below) for more details about these cabins.
