Indiana has a long, fascinating history, which comes with some pretty spooky and incredulous legends. While many Hoosiers know all about Indiana’s most haunted cemeteries and historic buildings, few people know the story of this eerie and fascinating remote hotel in the Hoosier state.
Nestled north of Indianapolis is the tiny town of Atlanta, home to a historic hotel with an eerie and incredible history. The Roads Hotel, originally built in 1893, has a fascinating and haunting legend that still attracts guests, to this day.
The history of the Roads Hotel is two-fold. Roads Hotel was purchased by Newton Roads and run by his wife, Clara, and children. His son was diagnosed with tuberculosis and died in the hotel. Clara and Newton also passed away in the hotel.
This hotel was also a popular stop for Al Capone and John Dillinger (and was even a speakeasy for a short period of time). Between the infamous gangsters and the tragic deaths of the hotel owner's family, sightings of ghosts have run rampant.
Visitors claim to openly see apparitions of men, women, and children during their stay. They also have reported hearing conversations in rooms between past guests.
The hotel fully embraces its notoriety, focusing on providing an atmosphere ghost hunters will enjoy. They even have a room filled with dolls that many claim captures the most EVPs when ghost hunting.
This spooky hotel offers both room bookings and investigation bookings online. They also frequently host public ghost investigations throughout the year.
