Few things scream ‘SUMMER’ as loudly as some of the most beautiful lakes in Indiana. When the mercury begins to rise and we start seeking out ways to stay cool that don’t involve staying indoors, it’s easy to conclude that a lake is just the thing for the occasion. So, why not check out some of the more famous – and gorgeous – quarries in Indiana? Seriously, they’re clean, seem to stay the perfect temperature forever, and the privately-owned ones can be a blast and a half. So, this summer, when you’re wondering about things to do outdoors in Indiana that won’t kill you by means of heat, check out one of these four delightful Indiana quarry lakes:
Quarry Lake Campground is found in Fillmore, Indiana, and it's a lesser-known (but still wonderful) quarry lake just waiting for you to come out and enjoy. Now here's the thing about Quarry Lake Campground: it's private and for members only, so it's never crowded, always clean, and everyone you'll encounter is warm and friendly. Oh - and it's AFFORDABLE! It totally beats the cost of a season pass at an amusement park. Visit the Quarry Lake Campground Facebook page for the most up-to-date info on how to become a member and begin enjoying this quarry in Indiana ASAP.
White Rock Park is another quarry-turned-recreational area you're sure to fall in love with from the first time you dip your toes in the nice, chilly water. Not only is it one of the best places to go swimming in Indiana: it's also jam-packed with fun stuff to do, which everyone in your family will love. Go cliff jumping. Zoom over the water on a zip line. Go fishing. Camp out. The possibilities are endless. This is one of the clearest lakes in Indiana and we think you'll love it.
Dream Lake really is like something out of a dream. It's a stunning emerald swimming hole that once served as a limestone quarry but now serves as one of the best summer hangouts in Indiana, and there's a reason we love it: it's affordable, it's clean, and it's well worth the drive to get there. Well, unless you were just at White Rock Park... both are found in St. Paul, Indiana, and you could make a day trip out of doing both!
Last on the list but certainly in no way least, France Park is Indiana's best place for SCUBA diving. It's also home to a breathtaking waterfall and all the summertime shenanigans one could ever ask for. This is one of those places to go in Indiana during summer you can't miss.
So, there you have it: four amazing quarries in Indiana that are worth a visit (or ten) while the weather is warm and the sun is out. Do you have any favorite things to do in Indiana during the summer? Tell us about your traditions in the comments.
