Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
The secret is definitely out by now: Indiana is an outrageously scenic place. Seriously, it is – while folks who have never been here might think it’s nothing but endless farmlands and cornfields, they certainly have no idea what they’re missing. From incredible sand dunes to one of the Great Lakes to old-growth forests, marshes, and wilderness, Indiana is an amazing place to explore, especially for lovers of the great outdoors. Let’s take, for example, the little slice of paradise known as Potato Creek State Park into consideration. It’s easily one of the most beautiful, dreamlike places you’ll ever go – and it’s ours. All ours.
Potato Creek State Park is like something out of a fantasy novel.
...a fantasy novel about Indiana, obviously. But seriously, it doesn't look like what you might expect Indiana "should". It's a beautiful, diverse landscape filled head-to-tail with wonders.
It's an excellent option for a day trip, especially if you enjoy hiking.
The gorgeous, 327-acre lake located smack-dab in the middle of everything is the wonderful Worster Lake. Long, long ago, Native American peoples used this area for hunting and fishing; to this day, it remains very rich in wildlife and natural beauty.
You won't want to miss exploring the old woodlands, which have been exactly the same since... forever, really... and other points of interest like restored prairies, stunning natural wetlands, old-growth fields, and much more.
Should you decide you'd rather not leave for a while, the camping and campsites here are fabulous.
You can take your pick from RV campsites, primitive campsites, and even cabins. You'll want to make reservations ahead of time, as this destination is much-beloved among the locals (for obvious reasons).
If you're looking to experience a place you might have expected only in your dreams, you'll want to add Potato Creek State Park to your to-do list.
For more information about the park, plus everything you’ll need to book your campsites or cabins and then some, be sure to visit the official Department of Natural Resources Potato Creek State Park website.
