Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
If you’re a fan of family-friendly camping destinations, you’ll be thrilled to learn that Indiana is home to plenty of them. Big or small, bustling or sleepy, there’s a campground in Indiana for everyone regardless of what they might be looking for. One of our favorite campgrounds in Indiana is located right along the northeastern side of beautiful Lake Monroe (which just so happens to be one of our favorite destinations in Indiana, period). It’s called Paynetown State Recreation Area, and it really is the size of a small town.
As if Lake Monroe itself isn't awe-inspiring enough, there's a campground there that's perfect for your next big family outing.
Paynetown State Recreation Area is something of a campers' dream come true; it's got plenty of amenities (including ones you don't normally find at campgrounds), everyone here is always in a great mood, and it's a just-plain-fun place overall.
There's a marina where you can rent boats or bring your own.
Spend the entire day meandering around Lake Monroe on a boat if you so desire. There will be lots of other friendly folks out doing the same! Lake Monroe is a favorite haunt for boaters, so you're sure to cross paths with at least a few.

It's worth mentioning that this is not a campground you're going to want to stay at if you're looking for peace and quiet.
It's a huge family campground, and one can expect the bustling vibrance of a small village here. People come to Paynetown to relax and unwind with family and friends; as a result, it's a very active campground.
Enjoy a beach day by the lake. Take your pick from tent sites, RV hookup sites, dispersed sites, and more for your stay. There's even a small market on the grounds where you can get good firewood and some spirits (and we're not talking ghosts).
Drive-in, walk-in, boat-in; no matter what you're up to, there's an in for you at this family campground in Indiana.
This recreational site and campground really does appear to have it all: it's open year-round, and there are even showers on the grounds to help you stay fresh during your stay. It's very much an outdoor home away from home, and we're pretty proud that it's ours.
The Hoosier State has so much to offer when it comes to natural awe.
