Christmas in Indiana is a magical time. There are shows to see, holiday markets to peruse, and plenty of amazing light shows. One particular light display, however, just might be the prettiest of them all. Here’s what you need to know about checking out the Christmas City Walkway of Lights this season.
The Walkway of Lights is an annual holiday celebration in Marion’s Mississinewa Riverwalk, leading into Matter Park. It starts each year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving and runs right through Dec. 31. This dazzling display of light and color is not to be missed.
Each year, visitors to the Christmas City Walkway of Lights can drive through the mesmerizing display of more than two million lights in the comfort of their own cars. More intrepid guests who don’t mind the chill can also stroll along the Mississinewa Riverwalk on foot, being sure to stop at the brightly decorated 227-foot suspension bridge that stretches over the Mississinewa River.
You’ll be able to spot everything from twinkling Christmas scenes to flashing dinosaurs and sparkling candy canes that look good enough to eat. There are over 120 light displays that extend for over two miles. Once you’re done soaking up the beauty of the lights, head into the Gift Shoppe to warm up by the fireplace and browse handcrafted gifts made by local artisans.
A one-time charge of $5 per car allows unlimited visits to the Walkway all season, so it’s easy to wander through the lights as many times as you light before New Year. You can find the Christmas City Walkway of Lights at N. River Rd. & Quarry Road, Marion, Ind. Click here to find out more about this gorgeous winter wonderland.
