There’s a pretty major problem with summertime in Indiana (and no, I’m not talking about the excruciating heat!). There are just too many amazing outdoor places to explore. From Brown County State Park, to the charming city of Madison, to New Harmony, and the always popular Indiana Dunes, there are so many amazing places to explore and visit, that it can be difficult to choose. This summer, if you’re looking for a stunning slice of paradise in the Hoosier State, opt for one a little less known, but undeniably amazing.
Michigan City is famous for many things, most notably its charming lighthouse and lighthouse museum. However, this town is also home to the Friendship Botanic Gardens, one of the most stunning slices of land in all of Indiana.
The Friendship Botanic Gardens are an amazing place to have a party, wedding, or family reunion, and will simply blow your mind when you visit. These lush gardens spread across more than 100 acres of land and offer so much to see and explore.
The gorgeous lake, Lake Lucerne, offers great glimpses of wildlife, statues, and art. Small trails spill throughout the gardens, taking visitors on a grand tour of the land. Families will love spotting raccoons, deer, foxes, wild turkey, unique birds, and even smaller wildlife.
Take a self-guided tour while guided by the useful garden map. Best of all, if you’re a pet owner, your dog can explore the grounds with you (while on a leash, of course).
Visit, explore, and get back in touch with nature at the Friendship Botanic Gardens in Michigan City. Also, be sure to check out their calendar for special events like music and theater performances, wildlife exhibits, and learning and cultural programs.
This is one piece of paradise you definitely need to see to believe! For more beautiful spots in Indiana, check out these 11 lakes that are breathtaking in the summertime.
