Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Lovers of the offbeat and unusual have good reason to be stoked: one of our favorite weird places in Indiana, the Museum of Psychphonics (no, that’s not a word), is open again to the public and filled with just as much strange awesomeness as ever.
Tucked inside the G.C. Murphy Building at Fountain Square in Indianapolis is a small and strange (but totally fun) little museum dedicated to, well, the strange.
The word "psychphonics" is a made-up-by-the-creators word that means "sounds of the spirit," and visitors are encouraged to contemplate what that means to them.
Patrons who ask questions about what the works at any given time mean often leave with many more.
The artists and the space are intentionally vague, abstract, and open to interpretation, so you likely won't see art installations or exhibits like these anywhere else.

Some of the odd and intriguing things you might find here include the "Baby Mothership" designed and created by legendary stage manager Tom Battista in Indy in the 1970s.
You'll find other strange things, too - from ashtrays with bizarre significance (like one from a fast food joint Elvis was said to be spotted at after his death) to ever-changing exhibits prompting the viewer to think and ask questions.
The Museum of Psychphonics is a bizarre delight that we totally love. It’s one of those weird places in Indiana where your imagination can run amok and you can forget about life – if only for a little while. There is no official website for the Museum; it’s one of those things you definitely have to experience yourself, and photos will never do it justice.
