Hidden away near the town of Martinsville, Indiana, is a delightful 10-mile loop trail that makes for the perfect springtime adventure. It’s the Low Gap Trail, and there are all kinds of ways you can take it on, from hiking the entire 10 miles to breaking it into segments — and everything in between. Though it’s open all year-round, spring is easily one of THE best times to check it out; everything is bursting back to life, making for some truly awe-inspiring scenery you’re not soon to forget. The Low Gap Trail is a 10.3-mile loop trail that starts and ends at the official Morgan-Monroe State Forest HQ.
It's wonderful for plenty of reasons, but one of our favorite reasons is that it truly feels like a place you'd hike in, say, a movie or science fiction novel more so than a trail in the American Midwest.
It's rated as moderate and has some rocky, hilly portions in between areas that are mostly even and flat.
It's quite the adventure; though it's a popular trek for visitors and locals alike, you can still find some solitude by hiking it early in the morning during the week.

You'll encounter wildflowers, a small pond, lush, green woods, and more.
The trail is lengthy, which makes it a perfect candidate for a day hike. We think you ought to spend as much time here as you can; there's even camping allowed along the easternmost parts of the hike.
This trail seems to have a little bit o' everything, with something to love for everyone. Delight in mother nature at her finest right here in our backyard.
