Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
The state of Indiana is certainly no stranger to festivals. Every year, there are dozens – if not more – of awesome festivals put on by different groups for different reasons; sometimes, it’s to celebrate a season or holiday. Others, it’s dedicated to arts and music, or perhaps certain groups. It all depends on who’s holding it and for what – but sometimes, even old-school traditions fall between the cracks thanks to the hyper-saturation of Indiana’s festival market; one such event is a beyond delightful popcorn festival in Indiana that’s been taking place for five decades now. When it comes to fun stuff to do in Indiana, few things top a wholesome local tradition that attracts thousands.
Very few snacks are as timeless as good old-fashioned popcorn.
I think I can speak for just about everyone when I say that the vast majority of us have tried it and loved it - it's not easy to find someone who isn't a fan of popcorn in one of its many iterations, from buttered and salty to caramel or truffle or anything in between.
So, enter the Van Buren Popcorn Festival, which is now in its 51st year - it's been going for half a century and doesn't appear to be slowing down any decade soon.
There are too many for me to mention in one short paragraph, but some of the coolest highlights are the baby parade (so cute), the various 5K runs, and, of course, the classic car show.
There will also be a pet parade (ALSO so cute), a tractor pull, and a festival parade.
Seriously, the fun is non-stop from Thursday until the end of the day Saturday, so wear comfortable walking shoes, bring a lawn chair, and have a total blast.
For more information about the 51st annual Popcorn Festival of Van Buren, be sure to visit the official event website. There, you’ll find a detailed schedule, vendor info, and lots more. This year’s festival takes place from August 3rd to August 5th, 2023.
