Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Marshall, Indiana is a small town of about 267 people. There’s not a lot going on within the quiet little town itself, but there’s a reason for this – the natural wonders in and around town are the main draw, including one of the Hoosier State’s most beautiful state parks. Turkey Run State Park is just over 2,300 acres in size and the entire place is outrageously beautiful; there are numerous postcard-worthy places all over the park, though I’d go as far as to say that the Narrows covered bridge could be the most photogenic spot in Indiana! It legitimately looks like something straight out of a Thomas Kinkade painting… or maybe a fantasy novel.
The Narrows Covered Bridge is one of two bridges in the park.
It's got that warm, cozy, homey feel, no matter what the season (though, personally, we think winter and autumn are the best for those seeking photogenic wonder).
The other bridge within the park is a suspension bridge over Sugar Creek.
It's beautiful, though we're pretty sure Kinkade would have chosen the covered bridge over the suspension bridge for his work. There's just something so perfectly painterly about it.

The Narrows bridge was built in 1882 by a man called Joseph Britton. It, too, crosses Sugar Creek, and to this day folks are welcome to cross on foot.
There are several places all over the entire grounds that would make for a truly breathtaking subject; the creek and the foliage only add to the beauty. Wildlife and birds are everywhere. It's a veritable paradise.
There are numerous hikes you can take that lead you straight through some of the most incredible scenery in the Midwest.
You'll feel like you stepped out of Indiana into a Thomas Kinkade painting, and then out of the painting and into a place that's something like Middle Earth. Explore the park using its 14 miles of amazing hiking trails; some are easy, others are more challenging - but they're all worth it! The longest of all the trails is three miles, and the shortest is half a mile long.
The park is open all year 'round, and we definitely recommend visiting at least once for every season.
Should you decide you don't want to leave (we don't blame you), there's always any one of the amazing campgrounds at Turkey Run State Park - or maybe even the cabins available for reservation.
No matter what you're here for, be it hiking, photography, or even painting, you're sure to find it.
For more information about the park and all its amenities, visit the official Turkey Run State Park website. For a complete guide to all the trails at Turkey Run, our friends at AllTrails have you covered (and if you’re looking for ways to up your hiking game, check out AllTrails Plus).
