The Circle of Lights Christmas celebration kicks off the day after Thanksgiving every year in Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis.

The festival is centered around Indianapolis's favorite landmark, the Soldiers and Sailors monument, which was built to honor soldiers from people all over the world. This incredible monument stands just over a foot shorter than the Statue of Liberty, honoring the circle in downtown Indianapolis.

Visiting the monument when the lights turn on is a tradition for many families. Most people don't realize there are 52 strands of lights, each containing close to 5,000 light bulbs. The colors are also significant: green for the Army, white for the Air Force, red for the Marines, blue for the Navy, and yellow for the Coast Guard.

The lighting ceremony always hosts a variety of entertainment from concerts to talent competitions.
