Indianapolis has a rich history – and with any place with decades of stories, there’s also a rich history of ghost stories, paranormal activity, and unexplained events. From hauntings at this terrifying prison to creepy occurrences at a former asylum, Indy is filled with ghost stories and alleged hauntings. But this one place in Indianapolis might be the most haunted house in the entire city.
Located on what is now Marian University in Indianapolis is a famous mansion with chilling stories.
The James Allison Mansion rests on the grounds of this campus, holding in the tales of creepy ghost stories that Indy natives have heard for decades.
James Allison was a wealthy man from Indianapolis who was a founder of the Indianapolis Speedway and Allison Engineering Company (now a division of Rolls-Royce).
The mansion he resided in was built between 1911 and 1914 and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. Despite Allison's success, he died young from pneumonia at 56. The mansion was later sold to what is now Marian University, though visitors claim Allison never really left the mansion at all.
However, Allison's alleged paranormal activity isn't the most chilling part of this ghost story. It's rumored that the spirit of a little girl who drowned in the basement pool still lingers around the mansion. Visitors claim to have seen the ghost of a little girl and even heard shrill screams and heartbreaking cries from the basement. Voices in the attic have also been reported.

The Allison Mansion remains perfectly restored and beautiful to an almost eerie degree.
While the paranormal activity reported by workers and visitors does not seem to be violent, the heartbreaking stories of the two ghosts rumored to haunt its walls are chilling.
