Regarded as Indianapolis’ oldest surviving neighborhood, this historic district is a downtown staple, famous for being the home of Hoosier poet James Whitcomb Riley. For those in love with early 20th century architecture as well as everything downtown Indy has to offer, this is the neighborhood for you.
Located one mile east of downtown Indy, this historic neighborhood was one of the city’s earliest suburbs, established back in the 1870s. Home to some of Indianapolis’ most unique residential architecture, Woodruff Place was officially designated a local historic preservation district in 2001. One of the hip, artsy neighborhoods in downtown Indianapolis, Fountain Square is home to a wide assortment of restaurants, live music, and art. If you’re a young artist, you’ll love being surrounding by your peers as well as everything this neighborhood has to offer in terms of food, drinks, and nightlife.
The heart of this north side neighborhood is Butler University, where nearly 5,000 students attend for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
