Whether or not you’re a particularly religious person, there’s always room for appreciation of gorgeous architecture and design. Many churches throughout Indianapolis have both and they’re certainly worth visiting, no matter what your beliefs are. Here are seven of the most beautiful churches in the city:
1. Roberts Park United Methodist Church
One of the oldest churches remaining in downtown Indy, Roberts Park United was dedicated on August 27, 1876. It’s known for it’s amazing interior woodwork as well as its iconic bell tower near the southwest corner.
2. Christ Church Cathedral
As the pro-cathedral for the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis, this is one of the city’s most popular churches. You’ll find a beautiful exterior built with limestone and an eye-catching octagonal spire on the southwest corner tower.
3. St. Paul's Episcopal Church
A staple of the Meridian-Kessler community, St. Paul’s features a sprawling building complete with a stunning spire that can’t be missed.
4. Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church
Featuring a modern look and a high-arching dome capped with a large cross, Holy Trinity is a sight to be seen when you’re in the Carmel area. It’s a fantastic, sprawling church that has helped bring the city’s community together through the annual Greek Fest during the summer.
5. Indianapolis Indiana Temple
As a temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, this church hasn’t been around long. Dedicated on August 23, 2016, this single-level temple is 34,000-square-feet, complete with a beautiful end spire that’s similar to the iconic Gila Valley Arizona Temple out west.
6. St. Mary's Catholic Church
This Roman Catholic church designed by architect Hermann Gaul features a three-section facade dressed in stone. The building is designed in the Gothic Revival style, featuring an amazing Virgin Mary statue that you simply have to see for yourself.
7. St. John Lutheran Church
St. John has a pretty interesting story, considering it started as a log cabin church back in 1852. Now, it’s a beautiful church that has expanded over the years and become a popular part of the community.
