We’re lucky to have plenty of incredible exotic animals in Indiana, from the famous Indianapolis Zoo to the incredible Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo to the unique experiences at Wolf Park. But there’s one little-known zoo in Indiana that offers a variety of animal encounters, as well as other adventure options.
Washington Park Zoo is a little-known zoo in Michigan City with a fascinating origin story. The zoo began when a retired animal trainer brought his pet brown bear to the Washington Park area, which eventually led to the construction of the zoo that stands there today.
You'll also want to explore the amazing observation tower that looms over the zoo and the Indiana Dunes. Climb up 220 steps to discover one of the best views in the entire state.
