If you’re looking for a magical adventure to embark on this summer, there’s nothing quite as whimsical as the Richmond Fairy Trail. That’s right, there’s a fairy trail hiding in plain sight in eastern Indiana! But what exactly is a fairy trail, anyway…?
Richmond, Indiana is a famous historic city in the Hoosier State and is also well known for another amazing trail; their Chocolate Trail. A fairy trail (a trend which originated in Ann Arbor) now calls Richmond home and is fascinating children and adults, alike.
The unofficial story (and tale to tell to children) is that all throughout Richmond (and some of the rest of Wayne County) fairies and their homes have sprouted up across popular businesses. Some locations have fairies and their dwellings, while others have just houses, doors, or gardens. A peek inside often offers a magical glimpse at secret fairy lives.

The first piece of fairy evidence appeared in 2012 at the Joseph Moore Museum of Natural History, and ever since then, fairy houses have been popping up all across town. There are now more than 50 fairy dwellings to explore, and more are bound to appear! Restaurants, cafes, shops, and historical sites are popular destinations for these fairies.

A trip to the Wayne County Welcome Center will earn you a free Fairy Trail passport to help you mark off each fairy dwelling you stumble upon. Once at least 80% of the passport has been marked, the Welcome Center will grant you a free, magical gift.
In addition to the fun of exploring and uncovering these enchanted dwellings, visitors can also write letters to the fairies and drop them into select mailboxes found at the fairy sightings. If you include the right information, you just might receive a magical response back!
