There is nothing better than being able to find a little trick to make something you do in life a little easier. Life hacks is what they are called. I know, some of you are going to argue some of these life hacks can apply to any state. Well, any state where it snows. Whether they just apply to Indiana or they apply to every state, this doesn’t make them any less useful. Here are 12 life hacks everyone in Indiana needs to know.
1. Don’t waste money on a draft stopper; make your own instead.
Instead of using one of those store bought tubes that require being kicked back into place every single time you open the door, go to the local hardware store and get some pipe insulation. Not only is it cheaper, it is very easy to slide on the bottom of the door and cut to the right size. It will seal off the door to keep your home warm and keep any drafts out.
2. Stop an icy windshield from being a problem with water and vinegar.
Spraying three 3:1 vinegar/water on your windshield will make it impossible for ice to freeze onto your windshield. You will just have to remove the snow.

3. Always carry kitty litter with you when you go places.
While you should definitely still be watching your child, a laundry basket serves as a fun and safe barrier for your child to play in while he or she is taking a bath. If you happen to have an autistic (or other special needs) child, laundry baskets can be great for helping your child feel more comfortable and less anxious.
Instead of giving up your game time or letting your child kill the character you’ve worked so hard on, just give him or her a controller that is not actually set up. Most consoles use wireless controllers now, so this is even easier to do than it was when controllers had to be plugged in.
Turning the lights down and reading a book before you go to bed is one of the best hacks there is when it comes to making yourself fall asleep. Ideally, you should read something that you find a little on the boring side as opposed to something super interesting. It is more likely to put you to sleep.
Another bedroom and sleep hack us turning the temperature down a few degrees when you want everyone in the house to go to sleep. Your body temperature is supposed to drop as you nod off. Turning the temperature down just speeds up the process. A lot of people assume the only reason why so many people sleep with a fan is because of the noise. While the noise is nice, it is also because it cools you down and comforts you to sleep faster.
If your thermostat is not one that can be adjusted (or easily adjusted) just trick it into thinking it needs to be a few degrees warmer. If you put an ice pack on or near the thermostat, the thermostat is going to think it is a lot cooler in the room and start warming things up.
Who has time for ironing anyway? Just bring your wrinkled clothes in the bathroom, shut the door, and hang them up a on a hanger. The steam will help iron out the wrinkles. So, make sure your shower is nice and hot.
10. Use shampoo bottles to keep the shower curtain in place.
Personally, this is one I do all the time. Put your shampoo and soap bottles down on the corners of the shower curtains to keep them closed while you are showering. Easy!
Most women (and men who wear makeup) have a vanity or bathroom area where they do their makeup. It is a good idea to whip out a mirror and check your makeup once you are outside in the bright sunlight. You might see a few spots you missed.
You might be thinking this is an obvious hack, but so many people don’t do it that it can’t be that obvious. You can save all kinds of money buying some water instead of buying soda, juice, or energy drinks. Bottled water is cheap and tap water is even cheaper. You can also consider getting a filter if you don’t like the taste of tap water. Even getting water instead of soda when you go out to eat can save you a lot of money as most places don’t charge for water.
