Indiana is a beautiful state all the time, but there’s something about the fall season that takes the beauty to an all new level. The changing of the seasons is really a sight to behold here. Here are ten things you should do and places you should check out during the fall season.
1. Head to Brown County State Park.
I can pretty safely say that it doesn’t matter how many guides to enjoying fall in the state of Indiana you come across, all of them are going to have Brown County State Park on the list. The good lists are going to have it at the top. After all, few places are more beautiful during the fall than Brown County State Park. Located in Nashville, it's a great place to go swimming, biking, and hiking.
2. Relax on the Beach at the Indiana Dunes.
The Indiana Dunes State Park is located in Chesterton. It's home to a sandy beach and some sand dunes along Lake Michigan that stretch for a little more than 3 miles. With a lot of forested area and plants around the beach, it's a beautiful place to visit during the fall season. Activities you can participate in during your stay here include: hiking, biking, and swimming.
3. Head over to the Parke County Covered Bridge Trail.
This gorgeous covered bridge is located in Rockville. The trees around the bridge make it an absolutely breathtaking spot to enjoy the fall foliage.
4. Relax by the Waterfalls at Clifty Falls State Park.
Clifty Falls is located in Madison. The color of the trees and the falls make for a beautiful combination. The colored leaves in the water as the fall of the trees also make a pretty beautiful thing to witness.
5. Hike Along the Wabash Heritage Trail
The Wabash Heritage Trail is roughly 13 miles long. It passes through both Lafayette and West Lafayette. All the trees along the trail make it an incredible hiking experience in the fall.
6. Spend Some Time Relaxing at Turkey Run State Park.
Turkey Run State Park is located in Marshall. It's open all-year round and is home to a nature center that's staffed. It's a beautiful scenic and hiking spot with incredible fall foliage to enjoy. I know fall has not yet taken over the picture I’ve used, but imagine how beautiful that picture would be with fall colors?
7. Check Out Spring Mill State Park.
Spring Mill State Park is located in Mitchell. It's home to the Twin Caves and the Donaldson Woods. The biking and hiking trails are the perfect place to see some fall foliage. Again, you’ll have to use your imagination on the fall colors with this picture as well.
8. Take a rip up West Beach.
West Beach is located in Portage. It's a hotspot for individuals who like spending time outdoors. The 2.5 mile trail with two loops is perfect for hiking, bird watching, and, of course, checking out the beautiful fall colors in the trees. You can even go fishing at Long Lake if you want to.
9. McCloud Nature Park
McCloud Nature Park is a 232 acre premier nature park located in the central part of Indiana. More specifically, in North Salem. There are over six miles of trails to enjoy and you can access Big Walnut Creek. The reflection of the fall colored leaves is beautiful in the creek.
10. Pick some fruit, grab a pumpkin, and enjoy a corn maze.
We’ve previously posted articles where you can
go and pick your own fruit . Grab a pumpkin from one of these
pumpkin patches . Or try not to get lost in one of these
corn mazes . I highly recommend any of the item listed in those guides as ways to enjoy the fall season as well.
