Here’s the thing about Indiana… We really don’t have many castles hiding in our state. We do have a few though. We also have a few more that are incredible difficult to find pictures of. What I’ve noticed is that we also have a lot of buildings or houses that look like castles. I thought I could blend together a list of our actual castles with buildings that look like castles to make for a pretty nice list.
This beautiful castle is located in Dyer, Indiana. You can find it at 1370 Joliet Street. This castle is a wedding reception venue, a restaurant, a lounge, and a great venue for all sorts of events.
Clayshire Castle is the name of a bed and breakfast located in Bowling Green. It features a medieval theme right down to costumes and is a great way to escape from everyday reality.
Here we have a mysterious castle located somewhere in Indianapolis. The photographer who snapped the picture didn’t mention exactly where this castle was or even what it was. The digging I did turned up a lot of people who also call this the mysterious castle. Do you know where it is or what it is? Tell us in the comments!
Highland Lawn Cemetery is a cemetery owned and operated by the city of Terre Haute that was opened in 1884. I think the stone arch sure looks like it was designed to imitate a castle.
The construction of this county courthouse started in 1888 and was completed in 1890. It's located in the heart of downtown Evansville and used to be the official courthouse. I don’t know about you, but it sure looks like a castle to me!
Whether this old building is technically a castle or not, it sure looks like one. I’ve also come across several lists of castles in Indiana and this one always seems to make the list. Today, this building is used as a history center in Fort Wayne. Pretty neat!
So, there you have it, 8 castles (or almost castles) hidden in Indiana. Did you know the Hoosier state was home to so many places of royalty? Now the fun starts. Tell me which one of these is your favorite and why? You could also taka a guess at what that mystery castle is if you don’t actually know!
