One of my very first articles for Only in Your State was an article about the best burger joints in Indiana. Naturally, I had both supportive and negative comments (like I usually do) about the choices. What I noticed was a lot of suggestions for places I should have included. For that reason, I decided to make a part two with some more delicious burger joints in Indiana. After all, who would know better than you guys – my fellow Hoosiers.
You can find The New White Steamer in Washington. This is a burger joint that was recommended by one of the reader’s in the previous burger article as one of the best in Indiana. Customers claim you are not going to find a much better old fashioned burger joint in all of Indiana to take your family to. I don’t know about you, but the menu board reminds me of a concession stand at a baseball game.
Yes, that really is a burger in that picture. I don’t know about you, but I’m not really sure you can smash it down enough to take a bite of the whole thing or if you just have to eat it in sections… This is another burger joint that was highly recommended by my readers.
I’ve told you before that even though this is a burger article, a lot of Hoosiers prefer Tenderloins. It would not be a Hoosier article if I did not recommend a nice place to get a tenderloin. I have had several people tell me The Chocolate Moose is the best place for tenderloins in all of Indiana. Looking at the pictures of some of the food in this joint, I’d love to try it!
At Hinkle’s Hamburger, you go up to the bar and place your order – then you have a seat somewhere until they yell for you. Their burgers, onion rings, and even their milk shakes are delicious. While the residents of Bloomington may be a little biased, they argue this is the best burger joint anywhere in Indiana. What do you think?
5. Between the Bun - Burgers, Dogs and More (Greenwood, Indiana)
This burger joint came highly-highly recommended by readers. After seeing the pictures of what kind of burgers they serve, I guess I can understand why. Say what you will, but these pictures make me want to go here for lunch! I did a little digging into their menu and found out they have a The PB & J Burger. I have to ask – has anyone ever tried that? Sounds like an odd burger to me!
6. Beefcake Burger (Greenwood, Plainfield, New Castle)
The slogan of Beefcake Burgers is you come in and build your own burger to get away from your hunger. By building your own burger, you are sure you get exactly what you need to make your tastebuds dance. In addition to there three, locations they also have an affiliate store called Charlie’s in Greencastle that serves beefcake burgers.
Known more for its hot dogs, Dog N Suds is a great place to go for burgers as well. I highly recommend the Texas Burger and a root beer. Regardless of what you order from this place, you're not going to be disappointed!
I know, a pulled pork sandwich is not the same as a burger. I still stand beside what I said before though, not all "burgers" need to be made with hamburger meat. Maybe you want a sandwich, but you don't want a greasy burger. South Street Smoke House is ranked as one of the top ten places to eat in Lafayette. When you're in the mood for a pulled pork sandwich instead of a hamburger, head on over here!
If you want to enjoy more of a pub setting while you are chowing down on your burger, consider giving this one a try. Dinner, breakfast, and lunch – it's always a good time to come here for a meal. Need an idea of what to order? Consider the Tweety burger with a side of fried pickles.
Not all burgers have to be American, and Mango Café is the place to go if you want a burger from another culture. If you’ve never had Venezuelan, now is the time to check it out! Your mouth will water with the delicious smell that smacks your face as you walk into the place.
If I had to go eat lunch right now, I’d really like to run out and give number five a try. Which one of these burger joints is making your mouth water? Tell us in the comments below!
