There's a fabulous town in northern Indiana that is absolutely magical at Christmastime. Shipshewana is known for being a touristy Amish town, and it is even more brilliant during the holiday season.
This is the 11th year for this unique event, and locals look forward to it every season. Each winter brings a new set of carved-ice statues that feature Christmas scenes and other interesting sights.
Some pieces are even interactive. On the events' last day, there will be an ice carving competition with cash prizes for first through third place. Come watch professionals turn a giant block of ice into something beautiful.
The final day of the event also features a chili cook-off. There is no charge to compete but trophies and prizes will be awarded. It begins at 11 a.m. and ends when all the chili is gone. The cost is $5 to eat unless you have a 2018 Shipshewana Ice Festival Pin, which means you'll eat for free.
This special pin gets you all sorts of exciting deals at area businesses throughout the month of January. You can purchase these pins at JoJo's Pretzels and Lolly's located in The Davis Mercantile.
This magnificent ice festival is just one of many fun events taking place throughout Shipshewana this Christmas. You may also find horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday light displays, a Christmas bazaar, and visits with Santa.
