When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Are you a fan of hiking in Indiana? Are you madly in love with our awesome state and National Parks? Well, I’m the same way (for both), and I am super excited to tell you about what’s going on at our only National Park from now through September. It’s the awesome Project 66 at Indiana Dunes National Park, and during this challenge, you’ll hike all 19 trails within the park to celebrate the park’s founding in 1966. In all, should you do the entire thing, you’ll hike 66 amazing miles – and you’ll never experience anything else like it. Come out and hike!
Introducing Project 66, an amazing hiking challenge at Indiana Dunes National Park in which bold adventurers celebrate the park's opening by hiking every trail it's got.
The project is already underway, so some hikes have already been done, but you can do it at your own pace, too! Pinhook Bog Trail is the next one, happening on May 27th. It's a can't-miss, considering it's filled with some of the most unique landscapes you'll ever find in the Midwest.
Explore the wildlands of Indiana like never before on a trail that looks and feels like something from prehistoric days.
On June 17th, for example, you'll be hiking Mount Baldy Summit Trail... which is usually closed off to the public! These hikes are an amazing opportunity to explore corners of the Hoosier State that you've probably never seen.
On August 12th, enjoy the Hobart Woodland Trail. On August 19th, the Dunewood Trace Trail. On August 26, the Cowles Bog Trail (which, if you enjoyed Pinhook Bog, is a MUST do).
September 9th is the amazing Dune Ridge Trail, which I can't get enough of. It's a dreamy hike through some of Indiana's wildest landscapes. I mean... most of these trails are!
Of course, the hikes all mentioned here are far from the only ones; there are awesome hikes going on every single week until September’s end, so get on it! There’s definitely still time. For a full list of dates, hikes, and what to expect, be sure to check out the official Indiana Dunes 1966 Challenge website. What are your favorite hiking trails at Indiana Dunes National Park? Let me know in the comments! I love hearing about your favorite things.
