Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
The days of the speakeasy in Indiana are long gone… or are they? Perhaps not. After all, you didn’t hear it from us, of course, but there are still a few little holes-in-the-wall that you might not have ever heard of (but do still need to visit). These little hidden gems serve up great drinks, wonderful atmosphere, and more, and the one we’re going to shine a light on today – briefly, of course, before the fuzz notices – is a pleasant little watering hole that’s definitely off the beaten path (but definitely worth a visit). This little speakeasy in Indiana captures all the vibes of the days when places like it weren’t allowed. Take a gander:
Tucked away within an apartment complex in South Bend, Indiana, is The Hideaway.
It's not every day you find such a perfect little hangout spot like this one. No worries if you don't happen to live at this apartment complex; everyone is welcome. As long as you have the password.
...just kidding. But seriously, everyone is welcome.
Even before you open the door you'll get the overall feel of the joint.
It feels like something straight out of a 1920s prohibition-era hideout. It feels like the kind of place where you might just walk in and encounter outlaws.

Maybe you won't run into any outlaws, but what you will run into includes things like great bartenders and even greater beverages.
Each drink served up by every friendly employee is a work of art. This little hole in the wall (or should we say hole in the apartments?) took the decades-old speakeasy concept and modernized it in the best of ways, bringing with it that old-school feel while providing all the latest mixed libations.
...kidding. Again. Really, you should probably tell all of your friends that you've found this cool new place you'd like to check out. Whatever you say, you didn't hear it from us.
Okay, alright; it may not be some big secret, and it might not be an illicit hideout (even though we can totally pretend it is - not that we're going to, because we're all adults here), but it is a one-of-a-kind experience in South Bend.
If you happen to get hungry while you're hanging out at your new favorite watering hole, no worries there - The Hideaway offers up some basic bar food, like hummus and cheese plates. Score.
