Few Hoosiers know that there is an incredible goat farm in Scottsburg, Indiana that offers a wealth of fun things to do. Whether you want to learn more about farm life or just adore barnyard animals, this is an experience you won’t want to miss.
From goat milk products to live animal encounters, this farm provides a full day of fun in the country. Check it out:
Goat Milk Stuff is a 36-acre farm in southern Indiana that specializes in goats and goat milk products. It is a fabulous place to take tours, shop, and play with barnyard animals.
This massive farm is owned by a family of 10 with five sons and three daughters. They all work together to keep the place running and to introduce locals to their way of life.
One of the main goals of this goat farm is to bring all-natural soaps, deodorants, lip balms, and lotions to the local community. These products are made to improve the health of sensitive or dry skin.
Goats are milked twice daily on this farm in order to keep up with the demand. This milk is used throughout the farm, including in the kitchen, the sweet shop, and the candy kitchen.
The most popular thing to do here is take the farm tour. It costs $25 ($20 online) per person and includes a look at how Goat Milk Stuff makes its soap as well as guided tours of the garden, goat barn, sweets kitchen, and more.
For an additional $5, guests can enjoy baby goat encounters. Only available March through December, this unforgettable opportunity allows you to snuggle with fun little baby goats for 25 minutes.
There is also a Kidding Experience, which allows guests to follow a farmer around for five hours during the spring to help kids being born. More than 100 are born on the farm each year, including Alpine and Nigerian Dwarf breeds. Participants in this experience can get as involved as they like, and a meal is provided for each person. The cost is $50.
For a more intense encounter with life on the farm, guests can pay $100 for the Farm Experience. Lasting eight hours, this is a full day of feeding and milking goats, cleaning stalls, and trimming hooves. A meal is also provided to participants of this experience, and everyone gets time to play with the goats.
In the spring, summer, and fall, Yoga with Goats is offered for $35 per person. Each session lasts two hours and includes time to get acquainted with the goats. The yoga itself is just an hour-long session.
Round out your goat experience with a meal made from the fresh ingredients produced on the farm. Lunch is served Monday through Saturday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and includes sandwiches, wraps, pizza, and quesadillas.
You'll be a goat cheese addict by the end of your meal. If you just can't get enough, head over to the farm's stores for products like goat milk gelato, fudge, caramels, cookies, muffins, jams, salsas, and more.
This goat farm is open Monday through Saturday between 9 a.m. ad 5 p.m., and it is free to walk the grounds, look at the animals, and shop in the stores. In addition to goats, you'll also find chickens, rabbits, cats, and dogs that'll make you smile.
The shop is closed on Sundays as well as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.
