The Whitewater Valley Fossil Hunt in central Indiana is a natural scavenger hunt that is unlike anything else in the state. Learn about what kinds of life lived off this land 445 million years ago.
The fossils found along this trail are older than woolly mammoths and dinosaurs. They come from a time when the land that is now Indiana was covered by water.
Make the most of this unique trail by picking up a Whitewater River Valley Trail Passport that will guide you to the best spots to look. The passports can be found at the Old National Road Welcome Center and the Joseph Moore Museum on the campus of Earlham College.
Explorers should collect at least five fossils on their adventure. Those who complete the challenge and bring their passports and fossils to either the welcome center or the museum will get a completion stamp and a prize.

It is absolutely free to enjoy this adventure. The Old National Road Welcome Center is open Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. as well as Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The Joseph Moore Museum is open between 1 and 5 p.m. on Wednesday as well as Friday through Monday.
