If there’s anything particularly wonderful about living in the Midwest, it’s that we know an excellent meal when we see one. This region of the country is blessed with some of the best comfort food in the world (though we might be biased), and there are many awesome places to eat in Indiana that reflect this. Some of the downright best food in the state, however, is found off the beaten path; you never know what you’ll find down some rural roads out here. The rural restaurant in Indiana we’re examining today is in a tiny little town nestled on a quiet, barely-paved country road that’s 100% worth the effort to reach.

It is the very definition of family-owned, and perhaps best of all, it's very proudly Amish - so you know everything is going to be amazing.
For the most part, it's cafeteria-style, though there are occasional exceptions.

Every single thing on the menu, from the noodles to the fried chicken, barbecue, casseroles and more, is made from scratch. This is amazingly unique, as you just don't find restaurants that still do this very often anymore. But hey, you never know what you'll find in the backcountry.
Many of the items are also grown fresh from the Schwartz family farm, and it absolutely shows. The freshness is unmatched.

When we say this spot is worth driving for, we mean it. The portions are gigantic and everything is delicious.
