Food is something that unites us as a culture. Think about it: if something’s going on, it’s expected that there will be food involved. Wedding? Food. Funeral? Food. Celebrations of holidays and special occasions? Food! It’s a major part of our lives – every state in the U.S. has a special food item or two that they call their own, and Indiana is no different. Here, the breaded tenderloin is king, an age-old Hoosier Tradition everyone needs to partake in at least once or twice. In many cases, it’s expected that the tenderloin should be large, and we mean large. Take the epic version of this old classic at Edinburgh Diner in, you guessed it – Edinburgh. It might just have the biggest tenderloin in Indiana – if not the entire US.
From the outside, it might not look like much - maybe it's an old fast food joint transformed into something awesome, but don't let that fool you into thinking it can't be excellent.
Because, truly, it is. If anyone does the classic Indiana breaded tenderloin (seriously, it originated here!) correctly, it's this tiny mom-and-pop shop in small-town Edinburgh.
You walk in, it's still simple. It might be busy, or you could get lucky and have it to yourself.
...but we're pretty sure you can get away with just this one, considering its enormity. Arrive hungry; you'll need your appetite to be huge for this one.
One of the nicest ways to spend a little while is to wander on in, order the best tenderloin in Indiana, and then watch the world go by from one of the large windows.
Of course, the place offers up plenty of other to-die-for menu options, including an amazing breakfast... but we think we all know why we're really here.
Edinburgh Diner is so mom-and-pop that it doesn’t have its own website, but if you visit its listing on TripAdvisor, you’ll find plenty of reviews, menus, hours, and more. Enjoy!
