Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
If there’s one community event we absolutely love here at Only In Your State, it’s a good ol’ fashioned Farmers Market. Seriously, think about it: it’s a place where the community comes together, sharing things they’ve grown, made, or created with everyone else. There’s a sense of camaraderie here, and everyone feels like a friend. Farmers Markets are, by and large, one of the best parts of living in Indiana (and the Midwest), and we have several wonderful ones to choose from. Take, for instance, the legendary Broad Ripple Farmers Market, a year-round celebration of everything it means to be a community. It’s easily one of the best – and largest – Farmers Markets in Indiana, and good times are inevitable from the moment you walk in. Check it out, and be sure to make lots of room in the car for all the cool stuff you’ll be taking home:
The Broad Ripple neighborhood is located about six miles north of downtown Indy, and it's an excellent example of how idyllic life can be around here.
We cannot understate the countless delights the Broad Ripple Farmers Market carries within; you will find dozens (and dozens) of local folks selling all sorts of things, from fresh fruits and veggies to houseplants, home décor, eateries, chocolatiers, bakers, and so much more!
It's a year-round opportunity for folks to come together and enjoy the simpler side of life.
There's a winter market, and a summer market. The winter market is indoors and takes place from November to April, every Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon. The summer market is only slightly different (and also outdoors); it runs from May through October from 8 a.m. to noon.

Like we said, it's pretty difficult to overstate the wonderfulness of this particular community event.
The market comes with some very specific rules and regulations for vendors to be able to participate, which ensures a high-quality experience for everyone who visits. Some of these guidelines include:
Everything that fits into the categories of meat, produce, and poultry was raised or grown by the farmer present at the booth. Preference is given to those who use sustainable, organic, or otherwise planet-friendly methods for doing so.
When it comes to artisan or handmade goods, priority is given to vendors who use locally-sourced ingredients. Products must be made in a certified kitchen - or a home-based kitchen - that understands (and meets) the risk and labeling requirements set by the Health Department.
As a result, you can literally always expect to find the best, highest-quality goodies at Broad Ripple Farmers Market.
There are plenty of reasons as to why we feel like this is one of the downright best Farmers Markets in Indiana, but these standards are probably our favorite bit. Well, that, and everyone here is simply so wonderful - you'll have to come experience it and see.
So, come on out to one of the best and brightest neighborhoods in Indianapolis and enjoy what might just be the best Farmers Market in the entire Midwest - if not the country!
For all the info you’ll need to plan your adventure at the market, be sure to check out the official Broad Ripple Farmers Market website. There, you’ll find vendor lists, up-to-date hours, and more.
