Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Attention Indiana adventurers: have I ever found the day trip for you! If you’ve been reading for any amount of time, you might already know that there are a handful of truly awesome caves in Indiana – most of which you can absolutely explore. One of these excursions, however, caught my eye: it’ called the Deep Darkness tour, and it can be scheduled on any day of the week. This guided cave tour in Indiana is a step above all the others… it’s a little more challenging, and a lot less illuminated.
Indiana Caverns is the Hoosier State's deepest, longest cave system.
One can take tours seven days a week, year-round, and the inside of the cave is always a cozy 56 degrees Fahrenheit. As a result, exploring is quite comfortable... as long as you're not claustrophobic.
One of the tours offered at Indiana Caverns is the nothing-short-of-epic Deep Darkness tour, which is as awesome as it sounds.
Tours begin at 9 a.m. EST, and folks must arrive at least 30 minutes early if they want to go. Bookings for the tour need to be made by calling (812) 734-1200.
Learning about the depths of this awe-inspiring cave system is especially rewarding; it's always super humbling to learn about places and things that have been around for much, much longer than any of us will be.
This is definitely a day trip type of thing, as you'll want to plan to be here for about six hours in total.
For more information about the Deep Darkness expedition, be sure to visit the official Indiana Caverns website. This incredible guided cave tour in Indiana is unlike any other experience you’ll find; who knew the Hoosier State was so much fun? Well, now you do.
