Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
If there’s anything we love, it’s a good hike, and lucky for us, this state has plenty of those to go around. For example, there is a very special hiking and walking trail within one of Indiana’s most coveted and beautiful natural wonders that you’ve got to experience at least once. On this trail, you’ll encounter the best of three worlds, as this particular trail is a combination of three of Indiana Dunes National Park’s most stunning. It’s called the West Beach 3-Loop Trail; it’s three and a half miles of absolutely beautiful landscapes and unique surroundings, and it’s one of the best easy hikes in Indiana.
You begin your trek with the Dune Succession Trail, otherwise called Loop 1.
From this vantage point, you'll get an incredible treat: some of the best scenic views in the entire Midwest! From here, you can quite literally see all the way to Chicago.

The Windy City lies just on the other side of Lake Michigan, which is so enormous that, for the most part, it resembles the sea.
Eventually, it'll be a stunning oak savannah, and it's one of the few places in Indiana where you can spot some cacti (prickly pears, to be specific). Ever had prickly pear jam? You ought to try it sometime! It's not just for the southwest anymore.
If you're a fan of birds, this may be your favorite portion of the hike.
From here, you'll follow along Long Lake until you reach the dunes. After the initial somewhat-steep climb, you'll be treated to unforgettable views of the lake.
From there, you wind through the dunes and eventually you end up at the picnic area.
Of course, Indiana Dunes State Park is home to some of the most breathtaking shores along Lake Michigan, featuring more than 15 miles of pristine beaches. This is easily one of the best easy hikes in Indiana, and we think you’ll fall in love with the views of Lake Michigan (and Long Lake) that you won’t soon forget!
