Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Some things from the past are absolutely not best left in the past, like old-school diners and mom-and-pop shops with malts, shakes, burgers, and the best all-American food and drink you came to love over the years. Well, luckily for us lovers of the olden days, there’s a vintage restaurant in Indiana that’s quite literally straight out of the 1950s; very little about it has changed since its transfer (yes, transfer – more on that in a moment) to the Hoosier State in 1954. Come out and eat at Oasis Diner, a cute little place to which some Hoosiers drive from all over the state just to come and experience. It’s the perfect nostalgic place to hang out and forget about life for a while.
Interestingly, this diner isn't in its original location... or even in its secondary location.
No, it's currently chilling in its third spot, having been moved and reassembled from Plainfield in November 2014. It had been moved to Plainfield from New Jersey by rail in 1954.
Nowadays, there aren't any additional plans to relocate again, but there are some truly amazing, classic Indiana dishes available, like this absolutely INCREDIBLE breaded tenderloin:
There are folks out there who remember this place from the 1950s in its earliest iterations, and many of them will still travel from wherever-they-are just to experience it again. We don't blame them; there's something so very special about nostalgia that we're pretty sure nobody doesn't like the feeling. But we digress.
In true classic diner fashion, it serves up a little of everything, from shakes, malts, and sodas to breakfast, lunch, dinner, soups, salads, and desserts.
Nobody who comes here will leave hungry; no matter what you love to eat, you're sure to find heaps of it on the plates at Oasis Diner. The menu is large and filled front-to-back with all kinds of delicious options. You'll even find some veggie-friendly options, like some of the best french fries you'll ever taste.
The portions are just about perfect, and every last dish is made with love - and it really shows.
Oh, and how could we have almost forgotten to mention what might be the best part (other than the nostalgia factor, obviously): the diner is also a bakery, and you can order all sorts of goodies like a dozen flavors of pie and numerous delectable cakes. Is there anything Oasis Diner doesn't have?
Well, sure, there are a couple of things it doesn't have, like time for bad times.
