Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Quick question: when it’s hot outside and you want to cool off without retreating back indoors, what’s your first thought? Probably something like find some water and play in it, right? Well, you’re in luck this summer, because Indiana’s got plenty of those. One of our favorite things to do in summer in Indiana is to spend an entire day (or more) lounging on or near our beautiful rivers and lakes. For a perfect example, head out to Whitewater River and check out Whitewater Canoe; it offers river-based kayaking, tubing, canoeing, rafting, and camping to Hoosiers looking to keep cool in the summer heat. It’s the perfect place for some good old-fashioned river recreation in Indiana – check it out!
Nestled 30 minutes from Cincinnati and an hour from Indianapolis is where Whitewater Canoe, a champion of fun-in-the-sun riverside shenanigans in Indiana since pretty much forever, does what it does best.
Sometimes, though, you'll be able to catch some early-season April float opportunities, and late-season stragglers will be happy to hear you can also sometimes book floats in October - weather and water levels depending, obviously.

What's even cooler, in our opinion, is that Whitewater Canoe offers up different kinds of kayaks, tubes, and more for rent.
There's likely to be something for everyone, no matter their needs. Be sure, of course, to employ life jackets and sunscreen for your adventure. It's much easier to have something go wrong on the water than it might seem, and sunburn can be nasty both in the moment and in terms of long-term effects.
It's also important to stay hydrated. You might be on the water, but that sun is still going to beat down, and the heat will still exist - it's better to err on the side of bringing too much water along than the other way around.
Now that we've got all the technical safety stuff out of the way (okay, not ALL of it - definitely review water safety guidelines before you leave), what's the story behind Whitewater River? It's a gorgeous, crystal-clear natural river that flows through southeast Indiana and southwest Ohio.
Its overall gentle flow makes it perfect for summer recreation activities like the ones offered by Whitewater Canoe.
Of course, it's a natural body of water; there may be surprises along the way in terms of its intensity, but as long as you're prepared, you're still in for a wonderful time. For the most part, it's a laid-back, positively delightful experience, and we're confident it'll introduce you to a beautiful side of the river you've never seen before.
Indiana is a beautiful state, and exploring it by river proves that.
For the most up-to-date river conditions and safety guidelines, and to get all the details you’ll need to plan your river adventure, be sure to visit the Whitewater Canoe website.
