Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Nestled along the northwestern corner of beautiful Lake Maxinkuckee in north-central Indiana is a tiny little beach very few Hoosiers know about. The beach sits within Culver Park, and it’s called – surprise! – Culver Beach. This little slice of paradise is seriously one of the best summer destinations in Indiana, hands down. Why, you ask? Well, between the shopping, dining, and, of course, the pristine sandy beach, what’s not to love? If you’re planning your summer getaway in Indiana anytime soon, make sure to add this little nook to your to-do list.
Culver is a small town that packs a big punch, especially during the summer months.
It was originally platted as Geneva in 1843, though over the years, it underwent a name change or two as well as plenty of other changes, big and small.
Nowadays, it's only the best summer destination in Indiana.
Dig your toes in the sand and enjoy the warmth of the sun while enjoying an ice cream cone or getting ready to launch a boat into the water. Relax lakeside with your feet dangling off the marina, or take a swim with friends.
During the summer, there is a fee to get into the beach area, but don't worry: it's ridiculously affordable, at anywhere from one to three dollars depending on your age. Children under three are always free (and so are active military with ID). Beach passes for the entire season are available, too - be sure to check out the official Maxinkuckee website for the most up-to-date rates.
Bring the kids on a summer afternoon and watch them make friends on the beach, or maybe try to make a few yourself.
When you're done with the water (impossible, we say), there is plenty to do in Culver as well, from shopping and dining to galleries and parlors galore. There's an earnest sense of community around here, and you'll feel like a welcome friend from the moment you arrive.
As if it weren't awesome enough around here, there's always something interesting going on at the lake.
