Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Indiana’s a beautiful state, through and through. From top to bottom, the Hoosier State is chock-filled with natural wonders, adorable towns, friendly people, and plenty of things to do and see. In the winter, this is doubly true; many folks avoid visiting the Midwest during the snowy season because of, well, snow – but I would argue that certain towns in the Hoosier State are simply made even better thanks to the snow. Take, for example, the beachy town of Beverly Shores. Located right up alongside Lake Michigan, Beverly Shores is one of Indiana’s coolest cities, and during the winter it comes alive in a whole new way.
Beverly Shores is, without a doubt, famous for its status as a summery, beachy town where Lake Michigan seems to go on forever (and so does the season).
If you've never experienced the dunes of the shoreline while covered in snow and ice, you've never lived. It's 100% worth bundling up and getting out there for, I promise!
Beverly Shores is the gateway to places like Kemil Beach and Indiana Dunes National Park.
Kemil Beach is awesome in the summer, but it's magical in the winter, and I love it. Be sure to bring a camera, because you'll feel like you're in a snow globe or a postcard while you're here.
Some winters are heavier than others; while some seasons will see the dunes - and Beverly Shores - buried under mounds of snow that never seem to end, others see only a dusting (though this is fairly uncommon - it's happened).
Beverly Shores makes for a cozy escape 24/7/365, and I might just argue that it's EXTRA cozy in the winter because everyone's all bundled up outside enjoying a possibly-frozen Lake Michigan. Sounds great to me!
If I'm being honest, though, Beverly Shores has something awesome about it all year, every year.
It deserves a re-visit for every season, at the very least - that way, you get the full Beverly experience.
