Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
If there’s one food humans have loved since its inception, it’s cheese. Cheese is an enormous part of the American diet, and there are numerous other cultures all over the world that revere this delicious dairy item as well. We went ahead and did some (delicious) digging and discovered six of the best cheese shops in Indiana – though some of them don’t technically have shops (at least yet). Come with us on a culinary adventure in which we unwrap the tastiest cheeses in the Midwest. And if you’re a fan of this list, you’ll also love a visit to the best mac and cheese place in Indiana, while you’re at it.
Heritage Ridge Creamery is easily one of the best cheese masters in all of Indiana, if not the entire Midwest. These flawless, flavorful cheeses are sure to call you back for more... and more... and more. We can't get enough, and we're pretty sure you won't, either!
Squirrel Creek Bulk Foods is so much more than JUST a cheese shop in Indiana. Shop its large selection of all things dairy and delicious, including a deli with the freshest meats and all the cheese you could ever want to take home with you. Yum.
This one's for all the goat cheese fanatics out there: we got you covered! Capriole Goat Cheese is a wonderful, family-owned and run farm that raises award-winning (and adorable) goats. The cheese is so amazing that you can truly taste the love these little guys were raised with. Capriole Goat Cheese can be found at grocery stores like Whole Foods on 86th, Whole Foods in Downtown, Turchetti's Salumeria Butcher Shop & Marketplace, and Goose The Market, all of which are in Indy. You'll also find it in Bloomington at various Bloomingfoods locations. Yum!
Traders Point Creamery is a lot more than just a farm-to-table restaurant featuring only locally grown and sourced foods; it's also an event hub, and a shopping spot, too. Good luck picking just one of its amazing farm-fresh, handmade cheeses to take home; you'll likely find yourself coming back for more pretty fast since you'll have to really try not to eat it all on the first day you have it (good luck, soldier).
Jacobs & Birchford Cheese, also known as J&B Cheese, is an amazing crafter of delicious cheeses - among other things - that might just be some of the best cheese in Indiana. You've never tasted anything quite like it, we promise - there's something special about the cheese you'll find at J&B, and from the very first taste, you'll understand.
Finally, we'll take a moment to appreciate local legend Risin' Creek Creamery, which can be found at an array of farmers markets, events, and other fun stuff all over Indiana. To find out where you'll be able to snag some of the best cheese in the world from Risin' Creek, be sure to closely follow its official Facebook page.
So there you have them: six of the best places to get cheese in Indiana. Which ones are your favorites? Who would you add to the list? Let us know!
