Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Who says you need to go to Venice to enjoy a nice, relaxing ride on a canal boat? Nope; turns out, we’ve got a few of our own here in the Hoosier State, and let us tell you – they are FUN. Let’s check out an awesome little Indiana canal boat waiting for you to arrive so it can take you on a fascinating, educational journey on the Wabash and Erie Canal system. As with any reputable boat, the one you’ll be riding on has a name: The Delphi. Join us on an intriguing adventure through time on a delightful canal boat ride in Indiana.
Once upon a time, this was a shipping canal linking the Great Lakes to the Ohio River.
It's more than 460 miles long and represents a time when the easiest way to get around was by boat.
Technically, the Wabash and Erie Canal is an amalgamation of four others: the Miami and Erie Canal, the original Wabash and Erie Canal, the Central Canal, and the Cross Cut Canal.
Nowadays, though, it's more a place of rest and relaxation than that of a commercial canal. Head to the canal and see: it's been transformed into a delightful educational experience by the Wabash & Erie Canal Museum, and there is definitely much fun to be had.

Part of the adventure features a perfect replica passenger boat by the name of the Delphi.
While at the museum, you can embark upon a wonder-filled 40-minute narrated tour, which is open every weekend from May to September. Keep in mind that they do not offer reservations, though, so you'll want to remember that and arrive early.
The canal boat ride operates rain or shine, though if there's lightning, all bets are off and the days' tours are canceled. Plan your visit for a sunny day just to be sure!
There's so much more to see, do, and learn about while you're here!
The kids will love playing on the playground (which is a giant canal boat), meeting new friends, and learning teamwork in various ways throughout the grounds. There's also a Pioneer Village, where you can catch a glimpse of life as it was back in the 1850s.
Between the boat ride, pioneer village, interactive museum, and more, we think your whole family will have a blast at the Wabash & Erie Canal museum.
For more information, including info on how to plan your visit and what to expect, be sure to check out the official website! Boat tour season begins in May and goes through September.
